Alzheimer's Disease (AD) is the most prevalent form of dementia worldwide and in Brazil, characterized by an inexorable progression and associated complications such as behavioral and psychological symptoms, which significantly impact patients and caregivers. Currently, there is no cure, and managing these symptoms remains challenging due to the lack of standardized clinical protocols for pharmacological treatment. This study aims to develop a clinical protocol incorporating various treatment options, emphasizing the use of cannabidiol (CBD) for managing behavioral and psychological symptoms of AD. An integrative literature review was conducted using PubMed, SciELO, and Google Scholar, covering publications from 2019 to 2023. Out of 134 articles identified, 10 were selected for analysis. While antipsychotics and certain antidepressants are commonly prescribed, their benefits are often modest relative to the potential risks of adverse effects. CBD emerges as a promising alternative, given its documented safety profile. Additionally, its neuroprotective, antioxidant, and neurorestorative properties, demonstrated in multiple clinical trials, suggest significant benefits in AD and its complications. These findings support the inclusion of CBD in a clinical treatment protocol for AD, offering a potential avenue for improved symptom management and patient outcomes.
